Predictions!

Last year we started making predictions for our little family. We didn't do too bad last year. Our predictions for 2009 are here. We hit about 8 for 12 of our predictions last year. That doesn't count Romney's predictions since his were all true within 3 seconds of saying them. He had no clue what we were talking about last year so he just told us all about how he loves us and Kung Fu Panda. I think he understood it a little better this year.

Lainey had the best results from last year - she was 4 for 4! Way to go Hurricane.
(side note: Lainey recently told me how excited she was to realize she has all of the vowels in her name. I was a little confused at first. I realized she was including her last name but I couldn't seem to find a U anywhere in her name. When I pointed this out she looked at my like I was not too bright and said, "Daaaad. Hurricane? U? Hurricane. it has a U in it, Dad." Right. That is true. How silly of me.)

This year we had gone kidless skiing on New Year's and we try hard not to let our kids stay up past 7:00 so they didn't get in on any New Year's Eve festivities, so we wanted to do something special with them. We thought we would get some sparkling cider, pick up a frozen lasagna at Harmons and we would be golden. NOPE. Lainey was not okay with frozen lasagna. (she totally gets that from Marie btw) Lainey wanted to go out for sushi! Well, that is hard to argue with but after a day of skiing we didn't really feel like spending that money so we came up with a compromise. How about Indian! We had a good coupon for Star of India so off we went and Lainey was very excited. She loves naan. Can't get enough of it and who can blame her? We invited the Kingfish to come along and so Star of India became our venue for this year's predictions. Here they are:

Jim:

• Jim will run a longer race than he has ever before
• Marie will get a promotion at work or a new job
• Lainey will learn to stand on her head for a long time
• Romney will get his first pair of glasses just like mom and dad. (Already come true!)
• Kingfish will get a new and exciting haircut

Marie:

• Jim will renounce sugar and salt for a full year (start date is flexible...)
  
• Marie will get a ski weekend somewhere with a condo and friends or family and lots of snow
• Lainey will get her first pet. (Jim's editorial: I hate this prediction and I'm mad at Marie for saying it in front of Lainey because of course Lainey seems to understand who can help make that prediction come true. Marie's editorial: I did qualify by suggesting her pet might be a grasshopper. or ants in an ant farm. Jim's rebuttal to Marie's editorial: The qualification came too late. I will only allow sea monkey's in the house. Or real monkeys. Nothing else.)
• Romney will learn to do cool skateboard tricks and to play a mean blues harmonica
• Kingfish will become a fly fishing guide in Montana

Lainey:

• Jim will fly after jumping off a cliff. (isn't it great to have kids that think you are cooler than you really are?)
• Marie will get a flying parachute and a new job where she doesn't have to work in the summer. (I think someone said something about flying right before she started her predictions and she just couldn't think of anything else.)
• Lainey will keep going to the open classroom and will keep liking Indian food
• Romney will learn to play a rockin' guitar
• Kingfish will ice fish a ton more

Romney:

• Jim will learn how to jump off a jump in his car and will jump over a house a rock a lake and a cliff
• Marie: I predict that mommy has been a good mommy and a good driver
• Lainey: I predict that she will be a good girl
• Romney: I predict that I have been a good boy
• Kingfish: I think Kingfish had a really good idea when he pulled us behind his four wheeler on sleds. I also think he will get chased by a bear.

Kingfish:

• Jim will go to work for Ben (Marie's brother) or get chased by a bear or both and he will not be sure which is scarier. Later this prediction was recanted and changed to the following: Jim will become lost in the wilderness on a campout but will be discovered after an extensive search (and he will be okay.) (Kingfish only added that last part after prompting from Marie.)
  
• Marie will decide to go back to school and as soon as she does will find out she is pregnant. She will also get a new horse. (Lainey is now really excited about the horse)
• Lainey will run for student office at her school and won't win but it will lead to bigger and better opportunities. She will also grow her hair out.
• Romney will learn how to fly. (ahh - this was the prediction that started all the flying talk above. The kids loved the idea and wanted to incorporate it into everything they predicted. Romney also immediately started trying to fly off of the booth in the restaurant and caused quite a ruckus.)
• Kingfish will find happiness in the great outdoors.
